DMCC Subscription Notices
From January 2027, the UK Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 requires businesses selling subscriptions to UK consumers to send specific notices at specific times, and to be able to prove it. This WordPress plugin automates them.
What it sends
- Reminder notices (s.258–259): before the first charge after a free trial, then for the renewal payment that ends each six-month period, with every item of Schedule 23 Part 3.
- Advance notice for renewals of 12 months or more (s.259(6)).
- Cooling-off notices (s.266) at the start of each renewal cooling-off period, with the refund terms.
- End of contract notices (s.261) when a subscription is cancelled, with any refund due.
- Key information at checkout (s.256) and an order button that says it creates an obligation to pay (s.257).
- Evidence log (s.272(6)): every notice stored with its content, recipient and time in a tamper-evident hash chain.
Works with WooCommerce Subscriptions and Paid Memberships Pro. Requires WordPress 6.2+ and PHP 7.4+.
Getting started
- Install and activate the plugin from WordPress.org, with WooCommerce Subscriptions or Paid Memberships Pro active.
- Open WooCommerce › Subscription notices (or Settings › Subscription notices).
- Fill in your business details and check the wording with Preview and Send me a test reminder.
- Keep Test mode on for a few days to receive a copy of every notice instead of your customers.
FAQ
Which subscriptions are covered?
Subscriptions entered into on or after the regime start date (1 January 2027 by default, editable) whose billing country is the UK or unknown. Earlier contracts are excluded by law (s.275(3)) but can be included.
How is "every six months" calculated?
As the Act says: monthly plans get about two reminders a year; annual plans one reminder plus an advance notice per renewal.
What if an e-mail fails?
The failure is logged and the notice is retried up to three times.
Does it send anything outside my site?
No. E-mails go through your site's mail setup and everything is stored in your database.
Is this legal advice?
No. The plugin implements the Act as published; settings let you adjust timings and wording when the implementing regulations are published. Check your terms with a lawyer.
